Against stiff competition of over 40 entries Cara Lea Dawson was voted to be Voice 4 St. Luke's 2008
Runner up was Liam Walpole and in third place was Charlotte Hardy.
For the fourth year running St. Luke's proudly presented Voice 4 St. Luke's. Following auditions and two heats the Grand Final took place at The Thameside Theatre Grays on 29th November in front of a 'packed house'.
The competition was open to under 18's. Competitors were asked to sing two songs, one from the 1960's or 'Disco genre' together with one song of their own choice. They were marked on vocal ability, stage presence, audience reaction, presentation and originality. Judges Danny Lawrence (Director of Gateway FM); Cllr. John Everett (Mayor Thurrock Council); Lesley Robinson (vocal Coach Youngstars); Claire Borley (Chief Features Writer Evening Echo Newspaper); and Peter Davies (Business man and Hospice Corporate Partner); had a tough time scoring all the acts.
Cara Lea's winning songs were 'Can't take my eyes of you' and 'Valerie'. Her prize was a day in the Basildon Recording Studio giving her the opportunity to 'cut her own disc' as well as performing at hospice events.
As well as being a fabulous showcase for local talent Voice 4 St. Luke's has helped raise valuable funds for the Hospice. St. Luke's are grateful to all who helped make this event successful especially our main sponsors: Basildon Recording Studios,The Big Lottery & Victor Trophies.
