ST. LUKE'S OPENS UP NEW SUPPORT CENTRE
St. Luke's Hospice is proud to announce that services are now running from their new satellite centre 'ST LUKE'S HOUSE' , Corringham.
St Luke’s Hospice was able to purchase, due to a fortuitous legacy donation, a property in Lampits Hill in Corringham. Following extensive renovation ‘St Lukes House’ has been transformed from a residential home to an exciting new venture.
St. Luke’s House is run as a satellite to the main Hospice in Basildon. Increase in the provision of services from the hospice and the lack of available space to provide these services has been the catalyst for this ground breaking development.
Two established and very successful Hospice run services, ‘Lukes’ Children’s Bereavement Service and Macmillan Dove Community Bereavement Service are now based at the new centre. St. Luke’s House has additional facilities to provide Complementary Therapy and offer surgery time to other services within South West Essex.
The Hospice will be utilising their new centre to it’s fullest by working in partnership with other organisations and service providers. The Macmillan Welfare Benefits Team will be holding a surgery on alternate Wednesday mornings from the 11th February, and there are plans for a Social Work surgery as well as the South Essex Lymphoedema Service to have a presence.
As well as providing the above services St. Luke’s House will also enable the Hospice, in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to develop an Information Resource Centre. This is a new initiative for South West Essex - which will be the first of its kind within the Essex Cancer Network. The service will provide information, support and advice on an informal, easily accessible, user friendly ‘drop in’ or appointment basis.
The Information Resource Centre, which will be fully functional as a drop in service from Monday 9th February, is being developed by Myfanwy Howells, St. Luke’s House Information Resource Coordinator, who has had over 20 year’s experience in caring for people with life limiting illness. She feels passionately about ensuring people have easily accessible information about their health, as well as any other help and support available to them.
Myfanwy said ‘’ We will be working closely with Macmillan Cancer Support, local hospitals, Gp’s and community nurses, helping people to link in with Social Care Services as well as helping to arrange for financial assessment. We will be able to offer support in many areas that will impact positively on people’s quality of life.’’
The official ribbon cutting was carried out by Chair of Hospice Trustees Gerry Peaty.
