Youth Service

This service, based at St. Luke’s House, aims to provide support to young people (up to the age of 19) living with, or affected by Cancer and any other life challenging disease or who are bereaved. This is delivered through one to one support and information, and/or group support to allow young people to share their experiences and socialise within a safe and confidential environment.

The Youth Service is a new service, based with Lukes Counselling Service for Children and Young People, which works collaboratively within St. Luke’s Hospice Community Information and Support Services.

Support undertaken with young people may involve other hospice services:

Referral Criteria

  • Young people should be aware of and agree to the referral
  • Parental consent is required for clients under 16 years old
  • If being referred by professionals who have had long term involvement and there is an identified ‘key worker’ it is expected that this service/professional will remain as the primary on-going support
  • Young people up to age 19
  • Clients may be patients, carers or bereaved
  • If bereaved bereavement to have taken place within five years
