Valuing Local Diversity in Palliative Care (VLDPCG)

“This is a group that will really make a difference”

“Specialist palliative care services need to widen their remit in order to open their arms to those who haven’t a choice”

“Recognising the most vulnerable members of society”

“It is important that we link with other services – this is where we fall down instead of working together, we say “this isn’t our problem” – e.g. if a patient has mental health issues alongside a palliative diagnosis”

“Giving a voice to those who can’t or don’t speak for themselves”

The group began in May 2006 as a joint initiative between Basildon Hospital Macmillan Team and St. Luke’s Hospice. We meet bi-monthly and have over 35 professionals, organizations and community groups on our circulation list.

The aim is to develop meaningful partnerships with local community groups and individuals that allow for understanding and equity of access to the most appropriate specialist palliative care services in honest, timely and needs specific ways.
