Our annual sponsored walk St. Luke’s Loop is back! Ramble through a scenic countryside loop on Sunday 6th October 2024. Starting from our Basildon Hospice the route loops to take in Langdon Hills Country Park, rambling through the flower-rich grasslands and ancient woodlands on the 7.3 mile route, finishing back at the Basildon Hospice.   

The sponsored walk starts and finishes at our Basildon Hospice - St. Luke’s Hospice, Fobbing Farm, Nethermayne, Basildon, Essex SS16 5NJ. The route loops to take in Langdon Hills Country Park, rambling through the flower-rich grasslands and ancient woodlands on the 7.3 mile route. 

The walk is marshalled and should take around 2.5-3.5 hours to complete. 

Walkers can register online at a cost of £10 per person. Children under 5 years old are free to enter but all under 18s must be accompanied by an adult for the whole event. 

Online registration closes on Wednesday 2nd Oct at 5pm.

On the day registration is available between 10am and 11am at our Hospice in Basildon where St. Luke's Loop begins at a cost of £15 per person.

We advise that all participants wear appropriate footwear and bring waterproof clothing and/or an umbrella.

All walkers will receive an exclusive wooden medal made from Poplar Plywood or Birch Plywood which are PEFC and FSC certified respectively, meaning the wood is from sustainably managed forests and controlled sources, ensuring an eco-friendly approach from start to finish.  Our suppliers aim to minimize waste as much waste as possible by working closely with us to produce only what’s necessary for the event.

Walkers are encouraged to fundraise for their participation in St. Luke’s Loop. St. Luke’s Hospice supports people living in Basildon and Thurrock who have recently been diagnosed or are living with a life-challenging or life-limiting illness. As a registered charity we are reliant on the generosity of our community to ensure the continued provision of specialist palliative and end of life care, where and when it is needed the most.

Below is the route map for St. Luke's Loop, please note A and B - our start and end location, is St. Luke's Hospice in Basildon. The route will be marshalled and accompanied throughout. 



Accessibility
The route is the route includes Langdon Hills Country Park with both Westley Heights and One Tree Hill areas are covered. Footpaths at One Tree Hill are less accessible than those at Westley Heights, and are not recommended for users of wheelchairs, mobility scooters or other or mobility aids. 

Dogs
Dogs must be kept under control and on a lead at all times, and it is the owners responsibility to bring a supply of poop bags and clean up any mess left by their dog. There are Bridle paths located within Langdon Hills Country Park so please do consider this before bringing your dog.

Parking
There is limited parking available at our Basildon Hospice Rear Car Park. 

Water

Water will be available to refill water bottles at Basildon Hospice and at a half way mark on the route. We encourage St. Luke’s Loop participants to bring their own bottle or purchase our exclusive St. Luke’s Hospice BPA free reusable water bottle, which will be available to pre-order online. If you would like to purchase your St. Luke’s hospice bottle you can do so here. A limited number of Hospice reusable bottles will also be available to purchase on the day.

Toilets
Toilets are available at St. Luke's Hospice Basildon (start and finish location) but please note there is no access to toilets on the route.
