St. Luke’s Hospice has launched its annual ‘Light up a Life’ appeal, giving local people and supporters of the Hospice the chance to come together this Christmas-time to remember loved ones no longer with us, while raising funds for the Hospice’s vital services.

Share a special message and a photo in memory of your loved one on St. Luke’s Hospice’s online dedication board and make a donation to support the Hospice continue providing specialist end of life and palliative care in Basildon, Thurrock and the surrounding areas.

There are many other ways to take part in Light up a Life this year. For example, the Hospice’s much-loved remembrance services will once-again be taking place across the local community. The services will include carols, special readings and moments of reflection, and will take place at the below locations:

  • Sunday 3rd December, 4:00pm – St. Martin’s Church, Basildon
  • Tuesday 5th December, 5:30pm – Basildon Crematorium, Bowers Gifford (This service will be available to live stream.)
  • Saturday 9th December, 4:00pm – St. Mary’s Church, Chadwell St Mary (This service venue replaces St. Peter & St. Paul’s church Grays venue, due to refurbishment works)
  • Sunday 10th December, 3:00pm – St. Mary Magdalen Church, Billericay

In addition, in partnership with Gateway 97.8 and Basildon Hospital Radio 87.7, there will be a special Light up a Life radio dedication programme to be aired this December. As part of the programme personal song dedications can be made in memory of loved ones, with a special song and message chosen.

Sarah Stoddart, from the St. Luke’s Hospice Fundraising team, said:

“The festive season can be a particularly poignant time of year for many, which is what makes Light up a Life special in our community. Light up a Life is a chance to join others as we remember those we have lost, whether that’s through dedications online, through song or by attending one of our special ceremonies. Light up a Life also raises vital funds for St. Luke’s Hospice and we thank everyone who joins us.”

Special thanks to T Cribb & Sons Funeral Directors and West & Coe Funeral Directors for supporting Light up a Life 2023.
